FAMED NATIONWIDE FOR ITS LEGENDARY Fish and Chips, the historic Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop has undergone a facelift. Family run since 1967, this establishment has become a hugely popular attraction for tourists and a much-loved favourite for locals. Its commonplace to see long queues stretching right down the street all summer and artists in the town have made this famous shop one of the most frequently painted local landmarks.

Add Design of Rendlesham were commissioned to improve the visual identity of the shop and repaint the iconic Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop sign. Today at 12 noon, popular BBC Radio Suffolk Breakfast Show Presenter, Mark Murphy unveiled the new and improved sign.

The new design has been chosen to modernise and freshen the Fish and Chip Shop's image while staying true to the art-loving nature of the town. It also emphasises that the great fish served here are caught by local fishermen off the coast. As well as a new face for the Fish and Chip Shop, the Add Design team have organised a huge 5 metre long mural at its sister restaurant The Golden Galleon. The hand-painted mural – which took Suffolk-born artist Edward Allen one week to paint – has made the restaurant look like the inside of a real Galleon, with the gun deck starting in the restaurant and descending far past the wall into the distance. The mural is an ambitious addition to the art covered town.

Mark Murphy, Breakfast Show Presenter of BBC Radio Suffolk says “As someone who loves his Aldeburgh fish and chips, I was delighted to be asked to unveil the new sign. Whenever friends come to stay with us from home or abroad we always head to Aldeburgh and join the queue for a nice fish and chip supper. You can’t beat it!”

Peter Cooney of Aldeburgh Fish and Chips says “We have held off changing the old sign for years because we know how iconic this little Fish and Chip Shop has become. The new design however is wonderful and perfect for Aldeburgh, we are sure local people will love it.”

Justin Firth, Director of Add Design says “We were delighted to win this project. We were already huge fans of Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop and I've always taken visiting friends there to sample the real British fish and chips. I am so happy to be part of its historic transformation.”

Following other successful projects, Add Design were especially chosen by Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop for their imaginative and fresh approach to design. The sign work and mural are just two of the designs-with-a-difference attracting attention and new contracts. Their current portfolio includes colourful promotions for local and international authors, unique packaging designs and original website designs for local and national customers.
